Why I Founded a Company to Inspire Kindness | by Brittany Maupin
Hey everyone, my name is Brittany Maupin and I am a Business Value Consultant on the Sales Team at Multiverse. I would like to be the first to wish you a happy Pay It Forward Day!
Today, April 28th, marks International Pay It Forward Day – a global initiative that highlights and promotes the idea of helping others in small ways. Of course, the hope is that people pay kindness forward every day, but today is a reminder of the power a small act of kindness can have when multiplied by millions of people around the world! To celebrate, I wanted to share with you a personal project I have been working on for the past two years focused on spreading kindness, empathy, and human connection by creating a global Pay it Forward movement.
Since I was young, I have been passionate about making a positive impact on the world. In my family, there was a strong emphasis on helping others and exposing ourselves to cultural diversity. This greatly influenced my career goals and the type of life I wanted to lead. In fact, that is exactly why I joined Multiverse. I jumped at the opportunity to be part of a team that understands the importance of providing people access to opportunities, which Multiverse does through apprenticeship programs. As a Business Value Consultant, my role is to show companies the tremendous benefit and value Multiverse apprentices can bring to their businesses. In this role, I am able to introduce business leaders to aspiring professionals from various backgrounds and expose these decision-makers to additional avenues of hiring top, diverse talent.
Founding the Company
Similar to how Multiverse intends to provide opportunities and connect people of diverse backgrounds, I have created my own personal project that does just this. I found that the pandemic exposed the need our society has to build human connections and decrease division on a global scale. Therefore, I co-founded an impact-based media company called Expose, whose mission is to create media that validates the intrinsic value of every human being and provides them with an opportunity to share their unique experiences with a global audience.

Creating a Chain of Kindness
Expose's first video series documents the first iterations of a global Pay It Forward movement aimed at creating the longest chain of acts of kindness. The chain starts with two strangers from different parts of the world meeting virtually, with their videos turned off. This offers them a chance to get to know each other free of any biases or assumptions that physical appearance creates. Following this first interaction, the strangers have a second call where they turn on their videos and reveal their identities. Upon this reveal, one participant gives an act of kindness to the other based on the connection they made during their first conversation. And this is where the movement begins. It is now up to the recipient of the act of kindness to pay it forward to another stranger from a different part of the world to continue the chain. The goal is for this process to be repeated, reaching all corners of the world to create a ripple effect of kindness, ultimately creating a more compassionate and connected world.
We have already launched Season 1 which documents the first ten iterations of the movement. It features ten participants who represent nationalities across six continents as well as a range of races, ages, genders, and religions. Acts of kindness in this season included everything from a subscription to a meditation app to a handmade piece of artwork that represents a mother/daughter connection to singing lessons. In celebration of this Pay It Forward Day, I encourage you to watch the trailer for Season 1 as well as the full episodes of Season 1 here.

Getting Involved
Given the success of the first season, we are in the midst of filming Season 2 where we are hoping to reach an even more diverse set of participants. We would love to extend the opportunity for you to participate in the movement. So if you are interested, please complete this form and tell us about yourself!
The success of Expose depends on the number of people who engage with our content and the message behind it. So, we invite you to share this movement with your community to reflect on the importance of kindness, empathy, and connection, despite our perceived differences. There are also opportunities for you to use your skills to strengthen this movement. If you have experience in video editing, marketing, or social media and would like to contribute to the content development of Expose, we would love to hear from you. Your involvement could make a real difference! If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected].
I hope your experience with Multiverse continues to be a positive one, and thank you for your support of our mission to bring kindness and connection to the world. In honor of today, I challenge you to spread kindness wherever you go. Something I have learned from the Pay It Forward movement is that one small act of kindness can really make the world a bit better. Happy Pay it Forward Day!
