What is Meant For You Won’t Pass You By | by Tamarah Asassa

Sometimes it feels like things never go the way you want them to and that all hope is gone. Whether this is from applying for a new job, getting that promotion you desire or even in your personal relationships, we all have experienced times when things just never seem to be going right.

A few years ago, I decided that I needed to start having more positive thinking patterns and not allow things that didn’t work out to get me down for a long period of time. Of course, it is fine to feel sad about things that don’t work out but I knew that I needed to feel this and then work out what my next steps were going to be.

One example that happened to me that I’m sure so many others can relate to was applying for jobs and not hearing anything back/getting rejections. At some points, it really felt hopeless and like I would never get what I desired. But when I did get the one job that suited me, my thought process shifted and it felt like it was meant to be. This allowed me to realise I needed to change my thinking patterns to reflect this in the longer term and a quote that stood out to me was:

‘What is meant for you won’t pass you by.’

I think using this mantra has definitely made everything that has worked out in life feel more deliberate and perfect. To me, it has felt like every experience has a purpose whether it works out or not.  And sure we all have had experiences that feel like they are just meant to work out but then they don’t.

How I Brought This Mantra Into My Life

The most important things I did to help change my thinking and bring this concept into my life were:

  • Repeating it to myself when doing something that might not go my way: I find repetition is one way of inviting positivity from sayings such as this into your life. You have to make yourself believe it, in order for it to come true and start affecting your way of thinking.
  • Writing down my goals/manifestations to make them concrete: Writing is another way to invite thoughts in and to solidify the goals you are aiming for.
  • Trusting myself that I was doing everything in my power to reach my goals: Most importantly, you need to trust yourself. By starting to believe and by doing the best you can in order to achieve your goals, you start to learn that even if that interview felt like it went amazing, sometimes things are just not meant to be and it will lead you to the path of finding that next amazing role.

An example of when this applied to my life is when I began searching for my full-time role. I had a few calls with different companies about proceeding to the interview stage. One of those companies did not contact me again after this call saying I would have an interview. I ended up getting my current role after this and truly I believe that this was meant to be. I was never meant to have that interview with the company that did not contact me and it led me to a greater path.

So the next time things don’t feel like they are working out, think to yourself and see if this idea of ‘What is meant to be won’t pass you by’ is something that will help you proceed to the next goal and will calm your nerves along the way.
