Why AI Is Your Best Friend | by Katie Amison

Artificial Intelligence is a fantastic tool that can enhance your daily life in endless ways, providing you know how to use it. I, as a Data Analytics Degree Apprentice on the ADF here at Multiverse, find AI to be an immense time-saver and overall brilliant tool for picking up little tasks. I am aware that Multiverse offers a diverse range of courses so I will try to keep my examples as relatable as possible.

So, what is AI?

According to ChatGPT, “Artificial Intelligence is the technology that enables machines to mimic human-like thinking and problem-solving.” In other words, ask it something and it probably has some sort of answer.

In this blog I won’t be explaining the intricacies of AI, so for more information, I would strongly recommend taking a look at Multiverse’s ‘AI Jumpstart’ course which is coming out soon.

As for the way I use AI in my day-to-day… I use a software called Splunk for data analysis and being a newbie, I struggle to know the commands off the top of my head. It’s a tricky case of ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’. Splunk uses its own coding language known as SPL, so when I’m really stuck or just need something quickly, I’ll tell ChatGPT roughly what I want the code to do, and it will give me a sample code. 9 times out of 10, the command is exactly what I am looking for. Such a time-saver!

Here are some more ways AI can make your apprentice life just that little bit easier…

Writing assistance:

  • ChatGPT is particularly useful for producing written work. I recently discovered the ability to use it to check if my portfolio work has missed any KSBs. This is such a game-changer as an apprentice as it allows you to see whether your projects are on track and where you can improve.
  • LinkedIn has also adopted the use of AI in writing parts of profiles and even re-wording posts for users.
  • Grammarly is a tool powered by AI and is brilliant for correcting grammar and tone of voice which is useful for us apprentices. It also checked this entire blog!

Planning/designing:

  • ChatGPT is worth noting for this purpose as well. It can produce anything from a travel itinerary to a weekly meal plan. I love using ChatGPT for planning as you can give it so many details to give you such a specific plan. For example, when planning a holiday with my friends, we had to consider multiple birthdays that we needed to be home for, the weather and price of travelling in particular countries, and one friend even wanted to make sure we were back for festival season! I told ChatGPT to consider all of this when devising an interrailing itinerary and it returned a concise and dated plan and considered everything perfectly.
  • Canva is a fantastic tool that can be used to produce social media designs, mood boards, and anything that requires some sort of designing… It is in fact driven by AI as it suggests particular colour palettes and layouts based on your previous work! Yet another way of improving efficiency.
  • Calendly! I know many Multiverse coaches use this for booking 1:1s, and it is great as it uses AI to suggest convenient times based on everyone’s availability.
  • Notion: I use Notion for planning my personal life! You can include links, pictures, code, calendars and so much more. It is a really lovely and customisable tool that is streamlined by its use of Artificial intelligence.

Overall, Artificial Intelligence is such a handy little tool, and it offers so much more than what I have described above. My advice would be to not become reliant on it, instead learn from it. AI is fantastic for automating tasks and saving time. It offers alternative perspectives and provides all the facts you need on most topics. As apprentices, our time is precious, so having a little friend with quick, reliable, and efficient skills is just the perfect match for a stress-free apprenticeship experience!
