My name is Keira Todd, and I am beyond delighted to have the opportunity to speak up with you in light of International Women's Day. After leaving school at the age of 16 and realising that college life wasn’t something that I wanted to adhere to, with thought, consideration and visualisation, I concluded that jumping into the world of work was perfect for me. I was always interested in learning things that I can apply beneficially and relevantly. I currently work for Allegis Group whilst completing a Digital Business Accelerator apprenticeship.

Women are incredible and I am constantly learning about myself as a woman and others surrounding me. We are drawn to the moon, animals trust us with our warm empathy, we are creatively driven. It's in our nature to care and to establish a desire to protect others. As women, we are connected through our bodies and mind, understanding one another's feelings.

So, for this year and many more to come, we are 'Breaking the bias'. I feel that this theme for 2022, is so important to the community of women. Feeling like you are incapable, incapacitated or impotent because of your gender is exceedingly unfair. We couldn’t be any more capable! This theme resonates personally as I love to prove people wrong and to showcase to others exactly what a strong, powerful woman can achieve with self-love and belief.

Passionately thinking, I feel that there's no better way to showcase this than in the workplace! I am so admired by influential, inspiring businesswomen, that I am in the continuing process of making myself one! Relating to a statistic gathered, women are 30% less likely to be considered for hiring processes. This shows a weakness within the hiring processes. Imagine how many opportunities organisations miss out on onboarding and developing incredible independent women!

Now, what can we as women and allies action to change the narrative? Allies, encourage and uplift those women around you, remember what an inspiring woman is capable of and what you can learn from them. Women, believe in yourself! Execute your true potential and accept no limitations. Harness, recognise and appreciate your strengths.
