Why Everyone Should Experience Remote Work | by Ana Gonzalez
One of the best benefits an employee can have is remote work. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for people to be able to gain their time back. Remote work not only gives you the chance to sleep that extra hour that would normally be used to commute, but it also allows you to change your environment and boost your mood.
I experienced this benefit firsthand last month. My friends and I had planned to make a weekend trip to Florida. We wanted to sit back, relax, visit beautiful beaches, and eat amazing food. Our trip was terrific, we had a lot of fun, but then came Monday morning and SURPRISE!! Our flight back to Atlanta was canceled and we needed to wait until the evening to take the next flight out.
At first, I was a bit frustrated by the situation and the thought that my friends and I had to miss work, but then I remembered that as a remote worker, I’m allowed to work anywhere. So, I took my laptop out of my backpack, headed to the lounge, and started my work day as usual. This is a great example of how flexible and beneficial remote work is. According to Buffer’s 2021 State of Remote Work survey 97.6 % of workers would like to work remotely at some point in their careers and would recommend remote work to family and friends.
Here are some great reasons why employees prefer a remote work environment:
- It provides a great work-life balance.
- Reduces operational costs.
- Increases employee productivity.
- Improves time efficiency, etc.
Remote work has allowed me to go back to Puerto Rico and visit my family. Family that I haven’t seen since I left in 2017 because of Hurricane Maria. It was so meaningful to me to finally embrace them after so long as well as being able to provide for myself all while being there. It really felt like I had the best of both worlds. So, in my opinion, for this and many more reasons, I feel like everyone should be allowed to benefit from remote work.
